Provio — provisional tax tracker for South African contractors
A provisional tax calculator and tracker for South African independent contractors.
Who it's for
Private and independent South African contractors who earn in foreign currency — dollars, euros, pounds, francs, dirhams — and pay SARS in rands. No payroll, no IRP5, no one withholding tax for you.
If you're a provisional taxpayer working for yourself, Provio guides you through the arithmetic of staying compliant — and keeps the paperwork to prove it.
What it does
Know what to set aside
A live SARS calculation using the brackets, rebates, medical credits and RA caps for the tax year you're in — so you always know what to hold back for each provisional payment.
Both IRP6 deadlines
Period 1 at the end of August and period 2 at the end of February, each with an amount and a countdown. Stop guessing at the end of February.
A private receipt vault
Attach the receipt to the expense the day it happens. Only you can open your files — receipts are kept for five years after submission, as SARS requires.
Foreign income, converted
Log each payment in its own currency at the rate you received. Provio keeps the rand totals SARS cares about.
Deductions that qualify
Retirement annuity, medical aid, out-of-pocket medical, home office, equipment and more — captured properly so nothing slips.
Updated every tax year
When SARS changes the tables, switch years and your numbers recalculate on the new rates.
Honest about its scope
Provio is a guidance platform. It provides estimated figures for planning purposes, based on published SARS rates and the information you capture. It does not submit returns, is not a tax filing system, and does not replace SARS, a registered tax practitioner or an accountant. Every amount must be verified against your own records and SARS eFiling. It is not professional tax advice.
